The one thing I always co-relate with Twitter is the phenomenon of ‘hashtags’. It is a running joke that whenever popular social media sites like Instagram, Facebook or YouTube servers are down or facing issues, people crowd on Twitter to use the hashtags such as #instagramdown, #facebookdown and #youtubedown. It is often observable how much the traffic to Twitter increases during such times and people have even made detailed graphs on this! This being said, I feel that Twitter always felt like a digital space surrounded by seriousness to me. People always talking about politics and current affairs and all kinds of serious matters made me not create an account on Twitter! However, Twitter has its own merits as a social media site, it is an effective tool for marketing and can help businesses reach a wider audience.
