The cost can increase if you need advanced features like custom product filters, multi-currency options, or complex shipping/tax rules.

Custom WordPress Website: For businesses requiring custom designs or integration with third-party systems (e.g., CRM, ERP), development can be complex and involve multiple phases, from design to development and testing. In my experience, if you are going for a custom designed WordPress, I would rather recommend custom designed and custom developed website using technologies like PHP, Laravel, Node JS etc. WordPress becomes problematic when you go for a high level of customisation.

Cost Range: AED 20,000 – AED 100,000+ ($5,500 – $27,000+)

NOTE: With this price range, you can build a custom developed website with advanced capabilities, unique design and without any disadvantages of WordPress. I would personally recommend you consider a custom designed website.

Domain Name: AED 40 – AED 200/year ($11 – $55)

Hosting:

Shared Hosting: AED 300 – AED 800/year ($82 – $220)

VPS or Managed Hosting: AED 1,000 – AED 3,000/year ($275 – $820)

Theme and Design:

Pre-built Theme: AED 200 – AED 500 ($55 – $135)

Custom Design: AED 5,000 – AED 20,000 ($1,400 – $5,500)

Plugins and Extensions:

Free plugins are often used for basic functionality, but premium plugins can range from AED 100 – AED 1,000 ($27 – $275) per plugin depending on the features.

E-commerce or SEO-related plugins may come with subscription fees, adding recurring costs.

Custom Development: If specific functionalities are needed (such as API integrations or custom plugins), developer costs will rise.

Hourly Developer Rates: AED 150 – AED 500 ($40 – $135) depending on the developer’s expertise.

Maintenance and Support:

NOTE: Ongoing maintenance expenses is relatively high for WordPress based websites. Many of my clients in Dubai face a lot of issues with their WordPress websites due to lack of maintenance and timely updates. If you try to update your WordPress after several years, don't be surprised to see a lot of plugs-in break at that time. 

3. Agency vs. Freelancers

Freelancer: Hiring a freelancer for WordPress website development may cost less, but it often involves compromises in the areas of support, deadlines, and long-term maintenance.

Typically, our company (SpiderWorks Technologies) quote anywhere between AED 15,000 to AED 30,000 for developing WordPress websites for our clients in Dubai. However, I have often seen that the freelancers quote less than 25% of our quotes and many clients just go by the price. And most of them will come back to us after 6 months or 1 years complaining that the freelancer abandoned the project, which is a common problem when working with freelancers at a very low cost.

Complex Websites: Can take 3-6 months or more, depending on the customization and features required. But, if you are going for a complex website or web application, I will recommend you consider custom developed websites which gives complete flexibility on the features.

SEO Optimization: Implementing SEO strategies can range from AED 1,500 – AED 10,000+ ($410 – $2,700), depending on the competitiveness of your niche. Our company typically charges AED 2,000 to AED 6,000 in most cases but the cost can vary depending on the competition.

Content Creation: You may need to factor in the cost of copywriting, photography, and video production. I am completely against using ChatGPT or other tools for content creation. The content created should be written by an expert and should spend a lot of time for research before publishing the content.

Ongoing Digital Marketing: Marketing packages such as social media management, Google Ads, or email marketing services range from AED 2,000 – AED 15,000/month ($550 – $4,100).
